Redefining Netscaler Experience

NetScaler Application Delivery Management (ADM) is a robust, centralized management solution for Citrix’s NetScaler environments, including NetScaler ADC (Application Delivery Controller), NetScaler Gateway, and SD-WAN. ADM offers a unified platform to monitor, manage, and troubleshoot complex application delivery networks at scale, improving operational efficiency and visibility.Netscaler ensures secure high-performance application delivery across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Its Admin Console centralizes monitoring, and analytics for seamless management. Widely used by Fortune 500 companies, the product required a major UX revamp due to years of ad-hoc updates

As a Lead Designer, I led the effort to redefine the NetScaler ADM user experience from the ground up. Working closely with a PMs, we conducted extensive user research, engaging directly with customers to identify and address pain points. Our user-centered approach allowed us to design a streamlined, intuitive interface that significantly improved user workflows and satisfaction.

Adoption of NetScaler ADM has been low, with many administrators not using it to manage their ADCs. This has resulted in challenges gathering telemetry data for insights and missed opportunities to provide proactive security alerts. To address these issues and boost adoption, we are focused on redefining the ADM user experience, making it more intuitive and valuable to administrators.

Problem Statement: Low Adoption of NetScaler ADM

Process & Strategy

My Role

As the Lead Design, I led the design transformation for NetScaler ADM

  • Establishing a user-centric design strategy.
  • Leading the design team through research, concept development, prototyping, and execution.
  • Collaborating with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Mentoring and guiding designers in creating cohesive, user-friendly workflows.
  • Presenting design concepts and solutions to senior leadership, advocating for user needs.

My responsibilities included:

Cross functional (14+)

5 product managers

9+ engineers

Team & Collaboration

My Team Size (2)

Stakeholders

Collaboration

Designer

Visual designer

Engaged with network admins, engineers, product leadership, and customer support teams.

Conducted regular cross-functional workshops to gather input, align priorities, and ensure technical feasibility.

Process & Strategy

Research & Discovery

Led user interviews and usability tests with enterprise customers, identifying issues like notification overload, complex navigation, and difficult troubleshooting.

Ideation & Prototyping

We conducted user research with network admins, identifying issues like complex navigation, poor hierarchy, and redundant notifications. I created personas for Network and System Admins to guide the redesign. Using Design Thinking, we prototyped new dashboards and workflows, tested with users, and reorganized the information architecture to simplify key tasks like SSL management and traffic monitoring.

Design System Integration

We integrated the new designs into the Citrix design system to ensure consistency across all Citrix products. I guided the team in creating modular components that could be reused across various workflows in ADM.
